CPSC recall 24-065: Helix lithium-ion battery can overheat, fire hazard
Safety risk
This is the official U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice.
What to check. Before buying a used Hover-1 Helix, check the serial number on the bottom of the board: units whose six-code serial number has 15914, 19203, or 19988 as the fifth code, in Camouflage or Galaxy colors, are recalled for a battery fire hazard. A seller offering one of these should be treated as offering a recalled product; DGL offers a free replacement board, not a repair.
Hover-1 Helix lithium-ion battery can overheat and ignite (CPSC recall 24-065)
Official CPSC recall (24-065) of December 21, 2023, covering about 25,000 Hover-1 Helix hoverboards in Camouflage and Galaxy colors with serial numbers containing 15914, 19203, or 19988 as the fifth code.
What to check. If you own a Helix in these colors, check the serial number on the bottom label; if it matches, stop using it immediately and contact Hover-1 (888-556-8426) for a free replacement. DGL reports three fires, five smoke-inhalation injuries (headaches, nausea, coughs), and about $25,000 in property damage.
Hover-1 Helix boards arrive dead on arrival or fail to hold a charge
Verified Amazon-purchase reviews on the Hover-1 Helix listing report units that arrive dead on arrival, will not charge, or will not hold a charge, including a buyer whose replacement unit also failed.
What to check. Several verified buyers report receiving Helix units that never charge or hold a charge, and replacements that also fail. If buying, expect a real risk of a dead-on-arrival unit and a refund-only remedy rather than a working replacement.
These reports come from the pages linked under each item: owner forums, repair guides and workshops. They are not a diagnosis of any one unit, and a careful check of the one you are buying still applies.
