Cybex Aton G harness anchor retention hooks can bend, causing harness strap to detach (NHTSA 25C002)
The official NHTSA Part 573 report documents the defect: the two retention hooks per harness hip anchor pin can deform when the seat is slid/scraped over a sharp edge, allowing the anchor pin to dislodge. The fix is a single retention bar introduced in production on May 10, 2024.
What to check. If you own an Aton G manufactured before May 10, 2024, contact Cybex for the free product update kit. Do not slide or scrape the seat over sharp edges. The harness cannot detach while a child is secured, but can detach when not in use.
Cybex voluntary recall notice — Aton G and Aton G Swivel infant car seats manufactured Feb 20 2023 – May 10 2024
Cybex's own official recall notice confirms the voluntary recall, the affected production window (Feb 20, 2023 – May 10, 2024), and that a free product improvement kit is available.
What to check. If you have an affected seat, request the free product update kit from Cybex. Note the key safety point: the anchor pin cannot come loose while a child is secured — the risk occurs when the seat is not in use after the hooks have been bent by misuse.
