Britax Römer voluntarily recalls BABY-SAFE PRO (26 Dec 2025–30 Sep 2026) over harness buckles from one production batch
This is the manufacturer's own voluntary-recall safety notice (primary source).
What to check. If the seat was made between 26 Dec 2025 and 30 Sep 2026, check the production date on the label under the shell and verify at www.baby-safe-check.com; affected owners get a replacement or a free product update.
In a frontal crash the harness buckle can open by itself when the BABY-SAFE PRO is in the recline position on the Vario Base 5Z, ejecting the child
Explains the concrete failure mode and the injury risk; the problem occurs only in the flattest recline on the Vario Base 5Z, not upright or with the vehicle belt.
What to check. Until checked, do not use the seat in the flattest recline position on the Vario Base 5Z; use it upright on the base or without the base secured by the vehicle belt.
Independent TCS/ADAC crash test rated the BABY-SAFE PRO 'not recommended': harness buckle opened and the dummy was thrown out
Reports the autumn 2026 TCS (with ADAC) test that gave the Baby-Safe Pro a 'not recommended' rating: plastic harness-fastening elements broke, the buckle opened, and the dummy was thrown from the carrier in the most reclined position on the Vario Base 5Z.
What to check. Independent testing corroborates the recall and the specific failure configuration; treat the recline-on-base configuration as unsafe until the seat is checked or replaced.
These reports come from the pages linked under each item: owner forums, repair guides and workshops. They are not a diagnosis of any one unit, and a careful check of the one you are buying still applies.
