Nintendo Switch OLED: known problems

4 sourced reports, with what to check before you buy. Each one links to the page it was reported on.

Costly or dangerous

Joy-Con stick drift reported on Switch OLED units

A Feddit thread on OLED drift reports the OLED's Joy-Con use the same sticks as all Switch 1 controllers and are prone to drift as a manufacturing issue, and links an owner report of drift on an OLED after one year.

What to check. Stick drift is the most widely documented Switch failure and the OLED is not exempt. Budget for a Joy-Con repair or replacement sticks; Nintendo's repair program and aftermarket parts are the common routes.

Worth checking

Switch OLED boot error 2002-4373 with black screen

A Nintendo Life forum owner reports a month-old Switch OLED showing error 2002-4373 on a black screen after sleep; a power-cycle fixed it, and forum speculation points to the SD card or corrupt system files.

What to check. Error 2002-4373 is a system-level error that usually clears on reboot, but if it recurs it is worth testing with the SD card removed before assuming hardware failure.

Switch OLED screen edge raised from bezel (adhesive)

A Nintendo Life forum owner reports a brand-new white Switch OLED whose screen edge is slightly raised from the bezel and lifts again after being pressed down, a known adhesive issue on the original Switch.

What to check. Check the screen edges on a new unit at purchase; a raised edge is a cosmetic/adhesive defect that may not be covered as a failure but is worth flagging for exchange while under warranty.

Minor

Switch OLED screen edge pixel projection / miscalibration

An iFixit answer thread documents a Switch OLED whose left-edge pixels are mirrored/projected onto the right edge in gray tones, attributed to a factory horizontal-sync miscalibration that is unfixable but cosmetic.

What to check. This is a cosmetic panel quirk visible mainly in gray scenes; it is not a functional failure, but if it bothers you it should be raised at purchase time since it is not repairable.
