Health Canada recall of Instant Pot Smart-60 for electrical hazard
Health Canada joint recall notice (RA-54204, July 15, 2015) confirming the same Smart-60 electrical recall: UPC 853084004132, UL certification file E214884, and date codes 1410 to 1503. Independent confirmation of the CPSC recall details.
What to check. Confirms the affected model and date-code range from a second regulator. Same check applies: verify the date code under the base before use.
Instant Pot Smart/Smart-60 recalled for electric-shock hazard from thermal probe in base
This finding came from the recall search. The U.S. CPSC and Health Canada jointly recalled the Instant Pot Smart and Smart-60 in July 2015 because the thermal probe in the base can conduct electricity through the cooker, posing an electric-shock risk. The recall covers serial numbers 1410-1503 and manufacture dates 12/1/2014-6/1/2015; three consumers reported being shocked. A buyer should check the serial number on the label under the base; an affected unit should be stopped and the base replaced free.
What to check. If you own or are buying a Smart/Smart-60, check the serial number and manufacture date on the label under the base. Units in the 1410-1503 range are recalled for an electric-shock hazard and should not be used; contact Instant Pot for a free replacement base. The current Turkish-market 'Akıllı Pişirici' (Smart Cooker) is a different, newer model and is not covered by this recall.
Instant Pot Smart-60 child burn lawsuit alleges lid opening ejected scalding contents
April 2025 Florida lawsuit (Case 6:25-cv-00618) alleges a 2-year-old was burned in May 2023 when the Smart-60 lid was opened and scalding contents ejected. Another allegation in litigation, consistent with the Wilder complaint's lid-under-pressure theory.
What to check. Second independent source alleging the same failure mode (lid opening under pressure) on the Smart-60. Both are pending lawsuits, so treat as reported risk rather than confirmed defect. Caution with lid opening is warranted.
Instant Pot Smart-60 lid removable under pressure, per court complaint
Federal complaint (Wilder v. Instant Brands, Docket 1:23-cv-1964) alleges the Smart-60 lid can be removed while pressure, heat and steam remain inside, causing scalding burn injuries. This is an allegation in litigation, not an adjudicated finding.
What to check. This is a plaintiff's allegation, not a proven defect. If you own a Smart-60, never force the lid open and always confirm the float valve has dropped before opening. Treat this as a reported risk, not a confirmed failure.
These reports come from the pages linked under each item: owner forums, repair guides and workshops. They are not a diagnosis of any one unit, and a careful check of the one you are buying still applies.
