IP-LUX 60 burn lawsuit: lid twisted open while pressurized, projecting scalding contents

A March 2023 lawsuit (4:23-cv-00286-BRW, E.D. Ark.) specifically names the IP-LUX 60, the exact model in this research subject. The plaintiff alleges he could easily twist the lid open while pressure remained inside, causing scalding contents to project onto him. This is the most model-specific evidence of the lid failure on the Lux 60.

What to check. For the LUX60 specifically, there is a documented lawsuit alleging the lid can be opened while the cooker is still pressurized, leading to severe burn injuries. Exercise caution and never force the lid open; verify the float valve has dropped before opening.

Worth checking

Lux Series manual lists error codes C1/C2 (faulty temperature sensor) and C5 (overheating)

The official Instant Pot troubleshooting document covering the Lux (among other models) lists C1 and C2 error codes as indicating a faulty temperature sensor requiring service, and C5 as overheating from no water or a misplaced inner pot. These are electrical failures documented in manufacturer materials.

What to check. If the Lux displays C1 or C2, the temperature sensor has failed and the unit needs service — the manual says to contact customer care. C5 indicates overheating, usually from insufficient liquid; add cooking liquid before continuing. These are not user-serviceable.

Minor

No CPSC recall covers the Lux; only Smart/Smart-60 models were recalled in 2015

The only CPSC recall for Instant Pot electric pressure cookers (July 2015) covers the Smart and Smart-60 models with a thermal probe electric-shock hazard. The Lux series is not included in any CPSC recall. This is important negative evidence: there is no official recall remedy for the Lux's lid issues.

What to check. The Lux has never been subject to a CPSC recall. The lid-locking concerns are litigated in court but have not resulted in an official recall or replacement program, so a buyer cannot rely on a recall remedy.
