Xiaomi Fan Heater internal melting and fire risk after ~1 month of use
Safety risk
An owner who bought the Xiaomi fan heater from Teknosa reports that after about one month of use, left on overnight, the unit produced a strong smell and melted internally; the authorized service refused repair calling it 'user error', and the owner states this is a serious fire and life-safety risk especially while sleeping.
What to check. Do not run this fan heater unattended (e.g. overnight). If you smell burning or see signs of internal melting, stop using it immediately and do not accept a 'user error' dismissal — push for inspection or replacement. The owner's report shows the unit did not protect itself from an internal melt condition.
Xiaomi Mi Smart Space Heater emitted sparks and burnt smell, main board burned
A separate Xiaomi heater model (Mi Smart Space Heater, a convection heater, not the fan heater) began emitting sparks and a burnt smell about three weeks after purchase, with the main board apparently burned out. The retailer refused a refund/return and the user had to escalate to the Consumer Arbitration Committee.
What to check. This is a different model from the fan heater, but it is a second documented Xiaomi heater fire-related incident in the same market. If any Xiaomi heater sparks, smells burnt, or drops off the app, stop using it and insist on a safety inspection — do not accept a 'not resaleable' refusal without escalation.
Xiaomi Smart Graphene Heater 2000W emitted smoke and bad smell on first use, shut down
A new Xiaomi Smart Graphene Heater 2000W emitted light smoke and a bad smell on first use, then shut itself off after 1–2 minutes without blowing air. This is a different model from the fan heater and reads more like a defective unit than a systemic hazard, but it is a third Xiaomi heater safety complaint in the same market.
What to check. Lower severity and a different model. If a new Xiaomi heater smokes on first power-on, stop using it and return it under warranty rather than continuing to run it.
Xiaomi's own FAQ claims flame-retardant body and overheating/tip-over protection
Safety risk
Xiaomi's own FAQ states the fan heater has overheating protection, a tip-over switch, and a flame-retardant body, and asserts it 'can be used for a long time'. This is the manufacturer's claim and stands in tension with the owner report of internal melting.
What to check. Treat the manufacturer's safety claims as marketing until verified. The owner-reported internal melting occurred despite these claimed protections, so do not rely on 'flame-retardant' or 'overheating protection' as a reason to run the unit unattended.
These reports come from the pages linked under each item: owner forums, repair guides and workshops. They are not a diagnosis of any one unit, and a careful check of the one you are buying still applies.
