GeForce RTX 5070 Ti: known problems

3 sourced reports, with what to check before you buy. Each one links to the page it was reported on.

Costly or dangerous

12VHPWR power connector melted at ~300W on MSI Vanguard RTX 5070 Ti

An owner reported a melted 12VHPWR connector on a 5070 Ti at only ~300W while using the bundled adapter; commenters blamed a sharply bent cable against the case side glass misaligning contacts, while others faulted the connector standard itself. A second independent source (overclockers.ru) states 16-pin connector melting affects the 5080 and 5070 Ti, not just the 5090.

What to check. Use a native straight 12V-2x6 PSU cable rather than the bundled adapter, and ensure the cable is not sharply bent against the side panel. Check the connector for heat under load. This is the same failure class that hit the RTX 4090.

Worth checking

Owner reports repeated black screens on Gigabyte RTX 5070 Ti Windforce with two different drivers

In a dedicated owner thread for 5070(Ti)/5080/5090 black-screen problems, a user reports two black screens on a Gigabyte 5070 Ti Windforce across two different drivers (576.02 and 576.28), with the image and mouse freezing, audio looping, then signal loss requiring a hard reset. Other posters link the issues to PCIe 5.0 and DisplayPort/HDR/DSC compatibility on Blackwell.

What to check. This is an owner-verified instance of the black-screen problem on the 5070 Ti specifically. If you hit it, try PCIe 4.0, a different DisplayPort port, and the latest driver/hotfix.

Minor

RTX 5070 Ti idle power draw runs 28-30W, higher than the 10-15W some expect

Owners measured the 5070 Ti idling at 28-30W (PNY OC card) and ~64W for a whole system with a Gigabyte Windforce, while some expected 10-15W. A parallel German thread reports HWiNFO showing 25-27W idle on a 5070 Ti.

What to check. If idle power draw matters to you (always-on PC, electricity cost), expect roughly 25-30W at idle rather than the lower figures some marketing suggests; this is a characteristic, not a failure.
