A1 firmware 'software fuse' disables printer (bricked reports) during heatbed recall

Fabbaloo reports that during the A1 heatbed cable recall, a firmware update introduced a 'software fuse' that stops the heatbed from heating if unexpected temperature changes are detected. Some operators report their machines becoming 'bricked', including one disabled after pausing mid-print. Bambu's response (quoted in the article) says it is not a printer lock but a temporary heatbed stop that can be re-enabled with a file.

What to check. A firmware update can disable the A1's heatbed (appearing as a bricked machine) if it detects unexpected thermal readings, including from a routine pause. If buying, be aware that firmware updates during the recall period carry this behavior; if owning, expect that a software-fuse trigger requires re-enabling and may be tied to the recall.

Worth checking

A1 extruder clog / air-printing error code HMS_1200-2000-0002-0006

Bambu's official HMS error documentation describes the A1 series pausing and reporting 'Failed to extrude' errors when the extruder cannot push filament (clogged extruder/hotend, too-thin filament, or slipping extruder gear). The wiki's solution steps include checking for filament wear, checking for extruder/hotend clogs, and replacing filament; it notes that if multiple rolls fail, the extruder gear may be abnormal.

What to check. Extruder clog and air-printing detection is a documented A1 failure mode that pauses prints with an HMS error. The official remedy is manual: clear the clog, check for filament wear, and inspect the extruder gear. This is a recurring maintenance issue rather than a defect.

A1 firmware update fails at 32% download with no error code

A French owner forum thread reports the A1 firmware update stalling at 32% download and failing with no error code. The user lists Bambu wiki causes including TH board hardware version incompatibility, abnormal cloud connection, insufficient SD space, and TH signal cable not connected. Another reply notes the A1 mini firmware update also blocks over Wi-Fi and recommends a local SD-card update.

What to check. Firmware updates can stall/fail with no error code, leaving the printer unable to update or connect to Bambu Studio. The workaround documented by owners is downloading the firmware and updating offline via microSD. This is a nuisance-level reliability issue, not hardware damage.

A1 hotend clumping / nozzle blob denied warranty replacement by Bambu

An Italian consumer complaint (Altroconsumo) documents a hotend clumping issue on the A1 where Bambu denied a replacement, attributing the nozzle clumping to poor filament-heatbed adhesion, non-standard filament, and the Nozzle Clumping Detection feature being disabled. Bambu offered inspection/repair under warranty instead of replacement.

What to check. Hotend clumping (a blob wrapping the nozzle) is a reported A1 failure mode, but Bambu may attribute it to user factors (adhesion, filament, disabled clumping detection) and deny replacement, offering repair instead. Owners should keep the Nozzle Clumping Detection feature enabled to protect warranty claims.

Minor

A1 vibrates and is noisy when printing cylindrical parts

A French owner reports strong vibration and noise when printing vertical cylindrical parts, present even without supports and when the toolhead moves counter-clockwise; silence mode reduces but does not eliminate it. The thread suggests a resonance with the desk and an isolation mat. This is a print-quality/comfort issue rather than a failure.

What to check. The A1 can vibrate and be noisy on certain geometries (cylinders), which is a comfort and print-quality annoyance, not a hardware failure. A desk isolation mat and silence mode are the reported mitigations.
